Box 3-7 was sounded at 0946 hours this morning alerting Stations 300 (Denton) , 100 (Federalsburg), and 200 (Preston) for the "Structure" fire. Medic 391 was first to respond, and reported to Caroline ECC that they had a large column of smoke showing from Legion Road and Shore Highway. Due to the rural area and volume of fire, Medic391 requested a second alarm. Minutes later, Engine 304 (4w/Lt. Trice), Tower 310 (3w/FF Gill), Tanker 306 (Asst. Engineer Fearins), and Utility 308 (4 w/ Capt. Dulin) made the response. Medic 391 arrived and reported a two story ordinary with fire throughout and initially established "Melvin Road Command" until Officer 1-16(Asst. Chief Holland) arrived. Command advised this would be a "Defensive" attack due the volume of fire and a partial collapse of the second floor. Officer 3-17 (Higgs) arrived and after a face to face with Chief Holland, Command was transfered to him with 1-16 being assigned water supply, and 3-20(Capt. Dulin) assigned as Safety. The Tower was set up as a master stream for approximatly five minutes, then crews worked with handlines to mop up the remaining fire. Crews were on scene for for approximatly 3 hours overhauling and mopping up the remaining fire. DVFC would like to extend our thanks to all our Mutual aide companies who assisted us with this fire, everyone worked well together.
